The Olive Branch
What started as a 2 hours-per-week feeding service has now become a 4-day-a-week drop in centre for the homeless and vulnerably housed. We invite guests to come and have a full cooked lunch, find new clothes and find pastoral help. Guests can also have access to games, computers, receive CV training and we even have on-site staff to help with counselling, financial planning and debt management as well as doctors and a dentist. You can also purchase meal tokens which can be redeemed here, as opposed to giving money so you know they will receive a great meal!

Night Shelter
7 churches at a time take one night per week through the winter months to accommodate the city’s homeless people and invite them to stay in our premises. We feed them dinner, provide beds and clothing and serve a breakfast in the morning. Volunteers from multiple churches all help out by doing dinner, sleeping over or serving breakfast.

Hope Newport
Hope Newport has been running for the past 4 years. It spans 3 days, involving community action projects such as gardening maintenance, street clean-ups, food parcels and park renovations. It is a free, practical service to positively affect the people of our city.
Churches all around Newport organize together and serve their communities. We partner with the City Council, Police and other charities to ensure that we are all meeting the needs of our people.

The Sanctuary
Providing a welcome and friendship to those new to Newport who were fleeing persecution or war in their own land prompted Bethel Community Church to launch the Sanctuary in March 2010. Based at the church’s gap centre on Stow Hill, and run entirely by volunteers, a drop in for women on a Thursday. Based around fun and friendship, the drop-in sessions offer leisure activities like table tennis, pool and computer games and a chance to build relationships over a cup of tea. A wide range of backgrounds attend the drop in and it is seen as a successful model of inclusion. The Sanctuary has also been able to offer practical support to people at the drop in such as help in moving to and furnishing a new home, and food parcels to families and individuals in financial difficulty because of their claim for asylum. The Sanctuary works closely alongside and in partnership with other refugee organisations in Newport.
We pray that through our work at the project we will see people feeling valued, welcomed and ultimately successful in rebuilding their lives here with us in Newport.
